I have had a number of people tell me that I should think about blogging. So, I have thought about blogging. I have been resisting blogging for a while, but people kept telling me I should blog. I was afraid to blog. I was afraid I would have nothing to say and afraid that what I did have to say wouldn’t be worth reading. I have not been relieved of those fears but I don’t think fear should keep you from doing something new so I am blogging. Right now – I am blogging – weird.

I decided if I was going to blog it should be something that at least helps someone. The problem is I don’t know what is going to help you as you read my blog. I do however know what helps me. What helps me is putting my thoughts in writing. I am “Mr. Short-Attention Span Man.” As a result – unless I write my thoughts down they scatter very quickly. When I write down my thoughts I can string them together and make some sense of what I think.

This is why I write out my sermons during the week. As I write I find that God helps pull my thoughts together and teaches me the lessons that I need to hear for myself and that others need to hear on a Sunday morning.

Years ago I found that when I read the Bible and then write about what I just read that I actually end up hearing God better. Writing slows me down long enough to hear what God is saying. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to miss what God is saying.

I think that too often I go through life at such a fast pace that I miss things – important things. I miss opportunities to hear God because I go too quickly from His Word. I miss opportunities to be used by God because I don’t stop to really see people. What about you? Are you missing important things because you are living way too fast? See if there is some way you can slow down with the intention of not missing God.

This blog is me writing down what I am thinking about. This blog is me slowing down so I can hear God. As I slow down to hear God it will help me. That is worth it to me. I pray that it might just help at least one other person out there. That would be worth it to me too.
